As we all know Marvel is rebooting Blade starring Mahershala Ali, and they are still in the process of looking for a writer and director for it. Today Arrow In The Head/joblo.com reported that Stephen Dorff isn’t happy about the reboot, but he said that he’d love to put his fangs back in again to reinvent his most iconic character in the Blade franchise Deacon Frost.
Arrow in the Head actually quoted what Stephen had said. “I definitely would love to reinvent that character because that character’s someone who really stands [the test of time]. I still talk about [him] 20-something years later. I’m still signing Deacon Frost pictures out front today, so we’ll see where it goes.”
Stephen also says “I saw Mahershala Ali] after it was announced and I’m happy for him. I think he’ll do a great job with Blade and reinventing the franchise. It probably should’ve been done a while ago, but I think it’s good for him. I’m sure he’ll do it justice. To have such a great actor in the part of Blade for this new generation, it’ll be great.”
Lastly he went on to say “We talked about doing a Deacon Frost movie on its own at one point, me and the director of the original Blade, who is just a genius, Stephen Norrington, and it never really happened because Marvel was a new entity and Kevin Feige was kind of building this whole new universe he’s built successfully. They weren’t really interested in the dark Marvel movie but maybe after Joker and all this stuff, maybe it’ll start to be trendy.”
If Marvel does decide to use Deacon, I wouldn’t be disappointed at all. I’ve always felt like that Dorff was an excellent actor for the character, because he added layers to the character that we haven’t seen before in a comic book based movie during the 90s. But knowing Kevin Feige he might have other plans to use other villains within the Blade universe.
