ROBERT DOWNEY JR. SAYS THAT HE WOULD NEED A REASON TO RETURN AS IRON MAN

When you look at the Marvel Cinematic Universe as whole you have to wonder what would it without Robert Downey JR. as Iron Man. If that first film had bombed, who knows what the state of comic-book adaptions would be at this point. It would happen just as fast as Thanos snapping his fingers that we would have never gotten to see any MCU movie being developed at Marvel Studios, and Marvel Studios would have to close down due to the film bombing, because they were building Iron Man As a franchise. But as we know that didn’t happen and now we have Avengers: EndGame that brought an end to the actor’s long tenure as Tony Stark/Iron Man, but most in this business are wise enough to know never say never.

On Joe Rogan’s podcast, Robert Downey JR. was asked yet again about a possible return to Iron Man somewhere down the road, with Rogan even laying out a possible scenario where Marvel has gone through a “few semi-lackluster AVENGERS sequels without you,” before the Avengers realize they need a super-genius and restart the time-machine, leading to Tony Stark stepping out to save the day. At first, Downey Jr. expressed his belief that audiences would feel a little cheated if he returned following his character’s death in AVENGERS: ENDGAME, but he did leave the door open, just a crack.

To me, starting up again is off the table. I feel like I’ve done all I could with that character. There would have to be a super compelling argument and a series of events that made it obvious. But the other thing is, I wanna do other stuff.

As a fan of the MCU and Robert Downey JR. I have to take his side, because I feel like that they wrapped up his character the way it was meant to be from the very beginning. I also feel like too if they just put him into the MCU again it would be forced and the emotional attachment that we had with Tony at the end of Endgame wouldn’t mean anything, because he laid his life down to save earth.

I’d want to see more movies with Downy JR. outside of the MCU. Don’t forget we have Dolittle coming out this year, and he’s also working on a sequel to Sherlock Holmes as well, and you can’t deny the man is a talented actor when you look at his filmography as a whole.
