Ray Porter Confirms Justice League Snyder Cut’s Darkseid

Back in 2017 Ray Porter was set to play Darkseid in Justice League, and the actor has finally confirmed his appearance in director Zack Snyder’s cut of the film.

Ray Porter made it official today by going to his Twitter to finally confirm his involvement with Zack Snyder’s Justice League. The behind-the-scenes tale of Justice League is a sordid affair. After original director Zack Snyder left the film following a death in his family, The Avengers director Joss Whedon was brought on board to oversee reshoots and overhaul the film. The resultant film was cut down to two hours (from an initial runtime of over three) and many storylines were removed or heavily altered. The movie was met with a tepid critical and commercial reception and plans for sequels were quietly shelved as the DCEU segued into more stand-alone projects like Joker and Birds of Prey.

After years of following the 2017 release of Justice League, rumors swirled about the existence of “Snyder Cut,” consisting of the scenes that Snyder completed before he was forced to leave the film. The rumors quickly escalated into a legitimate online movement calling for Warner Bros. to “Release the Snyder Cut,” and now it’s officially happening. Zack Snyder’s Justice League is due to release on the HBO Max streaming service in 2021. The project is expected to cost Warner Bros. roughly $20 million to complete post-production on the film.

Of the biggest things that most people are talking about is the elements of the Snyder Cut has been the prospective appearance of Darkseid in the film. In the theatrical cut of Justice League, the main villain, Steppenwolf, mentions the name of the iconic DC conqueror, but that’s it. Now, actor Ray Porter, who had long been rumored to be playing Darkseid, took to Twitter to confirm his involvement with Justice League, and his imminent return in Zack Snyder’s Director’s Cut.

Originally, Darkseid was supposed to make several appearances in Justice League, including in the flashback to the epic battle for the Mother Boxes, but all trace of his presence was removed from the theatrical cut, save for the orphaned reference from Steppenwolf. Now, with Zack Snyder finally getting to see his original vision carried through, Darkseid will finally get to make his presence known to the heroes of Earth.

It’s been said Snyder’s original version of Justice League ends with Steppenwolf being killed by Wonder Woman, rather than the more ambiguous fate he receives in the theatrical film. Darkseid would then appear via a Boom Tube to threaten the heroes. Which would’ve set the stage for Justice League 2, a film which, at this point, will likely never happen. Nevertheless, even without the sequels, the eventual release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League will finally offer closure to fans who have spent years wondering, “What could have been?”
