Margot Robbie Confirms No Jared Leto Joker In Birds Of Prey

If you’re a fan of The Joker from Suicide Squad I have some bad news for you. In an interview with Variety Margot Robbie conformed that Jared Leto’s Joker won’t be in the upcoming Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn. He won’t even have a cameo appearance, even though the plot of Birds of Prey revolves around the breakup of Harley and The Joker we won’t see the clown prince of crime.

After Robbie confirmed that Jared won’t be in the Birds of Prey movie she praised Joaquin Phoenix for his performance in Todd Phillips’ Joker, whilst also revealing that Birds of Prey will not follow that films’ particular style. “I feel like the ‘Joker’ film was much more grounded. Ours is different. It’s heightened. But at the end of the day it’s a really fun, badass group of women getting together. It’s a ride. It’s a crazy ride.”

She’ll be reprising her role Suicide Squad role of Harley Quinn in the film, which also stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain, Ewan McGregor as the villain Black Mask, Chris Messina as Victor Zsasz and Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya. Ali Wong (Fresh Off the Boat), Robert Catrini (American Crime Story), Steven Williams (IT) and Derek Wilson (Preacher) round out the ensemble.

Cathy Yan (Dead Pigs) will direct the spin-off, making her the first female Asian director to helm a superhero film. The script was penned by Christina Hodson (Bumblebee).

In the DC Comics, the Birds of Prey are a mostly female superhero team has included Oracle/Batgirl, Black Canary, Huntress, Catwoman, Hawkgirl, Power Girl, Poison Ivy, Vixen, and Katana, who was played by Karen Fukuhara in Suicide Squad. A short-lived live-action TV series titled Birds of Prey aired on The WB from 2002-to-2003 for 13 episodes, starring Ashley Scott as Huntress, Dina Meyer as Barbara Gordon/Oracle, Ian Abercrombie as Alfred Pennyworth and Mia Sara as Harley Quinn.

It makes me sad to know that we won’t get to see Jared Leto return in this upcoming Harley Quinn movie. I feel like that he should’ve gotten a lot more screen time in Suicide Squad. I like Jared as an actor, and I know that we‘re still getting a Harley and Joker movie so maybe it might be a prequel story telling us what led to the breakup. If you read the comics Joker and Harley actually broke up, and then later on deemed her as sane after being through emotional and physical abuse with Mr.J.
