Beneath all of the movie news and cancellations because of the COVID-19 there hasn’t been much movie news or TV news being released. But it looks like the Netflix series Locke & Key has been renewed for a second season.

Locke & Key follows a crazy decade long journey to get this project to the screen. Multiple film and TV incarnations had been in the works over the years, with the Netflix take originally setup at Hulu. Co-showrunners Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill had this to say about the renewal:

“We are thrilled to be continuing the journey of Locke & Key alongside all of our amazing collaborators. We are grateful to Netflix for all their support, especially at this difficult time, and look forward to bringing you the exciting next chapter of our story.”

Cuse and Averill have been developing scripts for a second season. What’s uncertain is when the series will actually

return for its second season. TV and film production remains mostly shutdown as the world grapples with the novel coronavirus crisis so I assume Netflix will have to watch the situation closely before announcing when work will get started on season 2 and when it will actually premiere.

Locke & Key is based on the comics by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez. On the show, after their father is murdered under mysterious circumstances, the three Locke siblings and their mother move into their ancestrial home, Keyhouse, where they discover magical keys that may be connected to their father’s death.
