There was a time during the 80s and late 90s where we had a series of buddy cop movies such as 48hrs, Lethal Weapon franchise, and the Bad Boys franchise. It looks like Danny Glover wants to put the badge back on the badge and his Smith & Wesson for another a fifth Lethal Weapon movie.

Dan Lin has stated that development is progressing when he was in a recent roundtable for the Hollywood Reporter, Lin was speaking regarding THE TWO POPES when he dropped the golden nugget about the beloved buddy cop franchise. Lin stated said “We’re trying to make the last Lethal Weapon movie. And Dick Donner’s coming back,” said Lin. “The original cast is coming back. And it’s just amazing. The story itself is very personal to him. Mel and Danny are ready to go, so it’s about the script.”

Glover was recently in JUMANJI: The Next Level. Meanwhile Mel Gipson has been trying to make a quiet comeback for himself since anti-semitic comments that came out from his sewer mouth over a decade ago.

Richard Donner who is about to turn 90 years old this year hasn’t directed a movie since 2006’s 16 Blocks, but if we know one thing age doesn’t mean anything when you look at Martin Scorsese who directed The Irishman last year and he’s about to film another movie.

There has always been talks about a fifth Lethal Weapon movie for years, but this is the very first time that a primary producer has confirmed development like this. Could it happen?

The fourth movie to me wrapped up nicely to where I felt like they didn’t need to do anymore movies, don’t get me wrong I love seeing Riggs and Murtaugh doing their thing as cops. But I feel like it’s too little to late it has been over a decade since the fourth movie was released, and normally when films that are released over a decade doesn’t do well at the box office, because of how long it has been since we seen certain characters.

But what do you guys think?
