Director Scott Derrickson Leaves Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness Over Creative Differenc

Director Scott Derrickson introduced us to the mystical side of the MCU in Doctor Strange. While Derrickson had been tapped to return for Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness, things have apparently changed. Variety reports that Derrickson and Marvel have gone in different directions. Although Derrickson will remain as an executive producer, he will no longer be directing the Doctor Strange sequel.

Marvel acknowledged Derrickson’s departure in an official statement that cited “creative differences” as the reason.

“Marvel Studios and Scott Derrickson have amicably parted ways on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness due to creative differences. We remain grateful to Scott for his contributions to the MCU.”

According to Variety, this won’t disrupt plans for the film’s production. In the Multiverse of Madness will start shooting in May, and Marvel Studios is already looking for a new director. Benedict Cumberbatch will reprise his role as Doctor Stephen Strange. Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, and Benedict Wong will presumably return. However, the only other role confirmed for the film is Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch/Wanda Maximoff. Last summer, Marvel revealed that the Disney+ series WandaVision will lead into the film. Additionally, the Loki series will also feature a tie-in with the film.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will hit theaters on May 7, 2021.

Although I’m disappointed by the news that Scott left the project over creative differences, it does leave the doors open for some fresh blood to take over for him. I wonder if Marvel is going to use an independent film director or someone that has more experience on their belt to direct the sequel to the 2016s Doctor Strange. Another positive to add to this news is at least the film didn’t start production and the director left while filming had begun. They have plenty of time between now and May to find another director.

My question is this who would you want to replace Scott as the director?
