Just when you thought we had enough spinoff TV series based on other movies Ben Affleck made the announcement today while speaking with Collider that long-in development sequel to The Accountant, directed by Gavin O’Connor, that The Accountant 2 could end up becoming a television series instead of another feature film.
Affleck “We’ve talked about it,” said Affleck. “There seems to be a debate whether or not to do a TV series version of it. The scriptwriter [Bill Dubuque] has become quite successful and busy, so he’s off doing his thing. And somebody said to me, ‘Well if we could find a script that we could retrofit and make into a sequel… But that’s sort of tricky because the personality of the character is so specific, that doesn’t really work to just say, ‘Well, we used call this script Action Movie Shootout, and now we’re going to call it The Accountant 2′.”
Ben added that he would “be thrilled to work with Gavin again and do that again,” saying he had a great time on the first film. “It was a lot of fun. It was an interesting twist on the genre and I’d love to do it.”
The star then joked, “And if they want to produce a TV show version of it and I get some royalties, well that’s great, too.”
The Accountant written by Bill Dubuque and starring Affleck, Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons, Jon Bernthal, and John Lithgow, hit theaters in 2016 from Warner Bros. Affleck starred as Christian Wolff, an autistic accountant moonlighting as a hitman. As the math savant uncooks the books for a new client, the Treasury Department closes in on his activities, and the body count starts to rise. The thriller earned $155.2 million at the worldwide box office.
Ben’s latest project, The Way Back, reunites O’Connor and Affleck for the sports drama that is set to release on March 6. The film also stars Al Madrigal (Night School), Michaela Watkins (Casual), Janina Gavankar (True Blood) and Glynn Turman (Bumblebee).
It’s good to see that Ben is joking and having a good time in the interview but what I really would like to see The Accountant VS John Wick where Ben’s character is trying to hunt John down for cheating on his finances.
