Last year at the festivals runs, the Scottish anarchic comedy Boyz In The Wood starring Eddie Izzard (Abominable, The High Note) has been acquired by Amazon Studios for an August premiere on Prime Video.
The show is written and directed by Ninian Doff in his feature directorial debut, the film follows teenage pals Dean, Duncan and DJ Beatroot from Glasgow who embark on a character-building camping trip inspired by the real-life program Duke of Edinburgh Award, where foraging, teamwork and orienteering are the order of the day. Eager to cut loose and smoke weed in the Scottish Highlands, the trio finds themselves paired with straight-laced Ian, a fellow camper determined to play by the rules.
After veering off the path into remote farmland that’s worlds away from their urban comfort zone, the boys find themselves hunted down by a shadowy force hell-bent on extinguishing their futures, leading to an anarchic journey of generational politics, hip-hop loving farmers and hallucinogenic rabbit droppings that pits the youth of tomorrow against the status quo of yesterday.
Alongside Izzard, the film stars Kate Dickie (The Witch), Georgie Glen (Call The Midwife), James Cosmo (His Dark Materials), Kevin Guthrie (The Terror), Jonathan Aris (Vivarium), Alice Lowe (Black Mirror: Bandersnatch), Samuel Bottomley (Everybody’s Talking About Jamie), Rian Gordon (The Rebel), Viraj Juneja and Lewis Gribben.
The film is produced by Matthew Plouffe, Tobey Maguire, Brian Coffey and Laura Tunstall and executive produced by Thomas Benski, Dayud Karbassioun, Marisa Clifford, Tim Headington, Richard Weinberg, Lia Buman and Izzard.
Boyz In The Wood is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Vide on August 7.
